'Totally devastated' Aaron Cook abandons Olympic selection battle ...

Taekwondo world number one Aaron Cook says he is 'totally devastated' after abandoning his battle to challenge his omission from the London 2012 Olympics. The Aaron Cook selection row has been a major embarrassment for the sport (Picture: AP) Cook, who is world number one and reigning European champion in the -80kg class, but was left out of the squad in favour of Lutalo Muhammad, who is also a European champion but in a different weight division. The British Olympic Association had initially refused to ratify the nomination list from GB Taekwondo and the World Taekwondo Federation also got involved, questioning the selection process, but GB Taekwondo stuck to its guns over Muhammad's inclusion. Cook and his team had threatened to go to court over the issue but have now, reluctantly abandoned their bid. 'Despite my representatives advising me that I still had a good chance of successfully overturning the BOA's ratification of Great Britain Taekwondo's decision not to select me for London 2012, I have decided not to take my case against the BOA to the High Court,' he said in a statement.
